Hot damn. Thats all I have to say about this place.
I honestly don’t know why it’s taken us so long to make our way over to Deep Ellum but I’m extremely happy we finally did. Our friend Samir came back to visit this past weekend so we decided to take him here because we’ve heard so many good things about this place. Deep Ellum is actually named after an artsy neighborhood in downtown Dallas that is known for its music, adventurous food and enticing nightlife since the early 1900′s.
Even though it was before noon, Selma and I decided to order drinks anyways. Whatever. It was the weekend. Don’t judge us. They have a really creative list of cocktails and beers that they change up monthly so it keeps things interesting. I started off with a 22oz. Bantam Cider - It is made from a blend of local apples, slowly fermented to capture subtle esters, and delicately balanced with a hint of flower-blossom honey. It was awesome.
Selma got the Oaxacan Rose – Mezcal, grapefruit liquor, lemon, grapefruit, peychaud’s bitters. It had a nice smokey flavor due to the mezcal that was balanced out nicely with the grapefruit.
Selma ordered the Red Flannel Hash – Roasted beets, potatoes, bell peppers, corned beef brisket, and 2 fried eggs. Selma loves her beets.
And i got the Keilbasa and Egg Sandwich - House-smoked kielbasa, fried egg, horseradish aioli, VT cheddar on an English muffin with home fries. This was ridiculously good. The cool horseradish aioli really brought out the flavor of the keilbasa.
Samir got the Breakfast Burrito – Scrambled eggs, house-made chorizo, salsa verde, Longhorn cheese, and crema. It also looked amazing and I’m sure it tasted great. I really love chorizo so I will probably have to get this next time.
I wish we could have tried one of everything on the menu. The entire meal was delicious and we will certainly be back to try the Duck Confit Hash and the BBQ Breakfast. This is just proof that everything is better if it’s from Texas.
