Hops n Scotch

Judging by the name, you would think this is a place that I would enjoy. However, based on our last dinner experience, we don’t know if we will be back. We met up with our good friend Neha a few weekends back to grab a bite to eat and she suggested this place right in Coolidge Corner. Again, this place was on the list of places we have been meaning to try so we went for it.

Based on the name, you can probably guess that this place has a wide selection of beers and scotches. While they do have an extensive list of both, nothing really jumped out at me. I eventually decided to go with a glass of the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. This little guy is a hefty 8.2% beer that has been aged in old bourbon casks to give it a distinct sweet finish. It tastes like a cross between makers mark and shiner bock which are two of my favorite things in the world. This is a terrible picture but it was the saving grace of this dining experience so I had to take a picture of it. 2014-01-04 19.23.39

Then everything kinda spiraled downhill from there. We both got pretty standard things so we thought it was hard to mess these things up. Selma got the Fish & Chips and I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger. The batter for the fish was way too thick and everything came out really greasy.

For the most part, it tasted fine but it was certainly nothing to write home (or blog) about.

They have an interesting looking brunch menu with chicken & waffles so we may come back for that. But otherwise, I don’t think we will be coming back here for dinner any time soon.
